Got it installed...I went ahead and did the "upgrade" selection instead of a clean install, I was curious as to how much would blow up in the process, and surprisingly nothing went wrong. I installed it on my extra computer that I use for a game server. so far, everything is pretty cool. it kept all my settings although it did not keep my dual boot w/ Ubuntu LInux (which Win XP would not either, had to install XP then linux). will have to reset that up

I really like the looks and feel of it so far. (got some screenies of it for ya too) took an hour and a half to install it, This is an AMD 2700xp w/ 512 mb of ram. fairly smooth loading of apps and switching windows. the overall simplicity is pretty decent too. very intuitive on how to use it. Vista also uses a computer performance rating that they intend to incorporate in future software. say if a computer software or game has a rating of "3" then any computer with that rating or above will be able to run it. kind of makes things simpler for judging whether or not a peice of software will work.

I do not like the size of it. this is huge, the install is from a DVD, and it probably doubled the size of the existing windows on this machine. A little bit slow in loading stuff too. The min requirements are 512 mb of ram and a minimum of a 800mhz processor. my 2700xp processor ( 2.16ghz) and the 512mb of ram with a 64mb pci video card (ati radaeon 7000) give me a performance rating of "1". I would hate to see the bare minimum computer run this beast. So far Vista does not care much for my video card, which is fairly dated. I wonder if my performance rating will improve with a modern card...

Over all I like it. The one vexing problem is the annoying permissions window that pops up every damn time you use something new or do something new. Reminds me of setting up Norton Internet Security....

got screenshots if anyone is curious...
